I Combined Liposuction and J-Plasma in Istanbul: A UK Patient’s Honest Story
I Combined Liposuction and J-Plasma in Istanbul: A UK Patient’s Honest Story
I’ll be upfront with you: I was sceptical. Very sceptical.
Like most people in the UK, I’d heard the horror stories — botched procedures, dodgy clinics, coming home looking worse than when you left. I’d also spent three years on NHS waiting lists getting nowhere, and two more years saving up quotes from private clinics in London that made my eyes water.
So when my friend told me she’d had her tummy tuck done in Istanbul for less than a third of what I’d been quoted in Manchester, I did what any sensible person would do. I dismissed it entirely.
Then I actually started researching. And six months later, I was on a flight to Istanbul.
This is my honest account of combining liposuction and J-Plasma skin tightening at Estelux Istanbul — what it cost, what it felt like, and whether I’d do it again.
Liposuction and J-Plasma in Istanbul: Why I Combined Both
My main concern wasn’t the fat itself — it was the skin. After losing nearly three stone over eighteen months, I was left with loose, deflated skin around my abdomen and inner thighs that no amount of exercise was going to fix. It was the kind of thing that makes you avoid changing rooms, swimming pools, and honestly, catching your own reflection.
When I had my free consultation with the team at Estelux, the surgeon explained something I hadn’t fully understood before: liposuction removes the fat, but it doesn’t tighten the skin. In fact, without addressing the skin, you can sometimes end up with more loose skin than you started with.
J-Plasma — also known as Renuvion — works by using cold helium plasma energy delivered under the skin. It causes the skin to contract immediately and continue tightening over the following months. Combined with liposuction, it addresses both problems in a single procedure: the fat and the skin.
I hadn’t even heard of J-Plasma before my consultation. By the end of it, I understood exactly why the two procedures made sense together for my situation.
The Cost: What I Actually Paid vs What I Was Quoted in the UK
I want to be completely transparent here, because cost is usually the first question people ask — and the one that gets the most vague answers.
In the UK, I had received quotes for liposuction alone ranging from £5,500 to £9,000 depending on the areas treated. J-Plasma wasn’t even offered at two of the three clinics I consulted. The one clinic that did offer it quoted an additional £4,500 on top.
My all-inclusive package at Estelux Istanbul — which covered the liposuction, J-Plasma, pre-operative blood tests, hotel accommodation for four nights, airport transfers both ways, my personal coordinator, aftercare kit and remote follow-up — came to significantly less than the cheapest UK quote for liposuction alone.
I won’t publish the exact figure because packages are tailored individually, but if you contact Estelux directly, they’ll give you a clear, itemised quote with no hidden costs. That transparency was actually one of the things that convinced me to go ahead.
Before I Travelled: The Consultation Process
Everything started on WhatsApp. I sent photos and a description of my concerns, and received a response within the hour. Not a generic response — a personalised one that actually addressed what I’d said.
Within a couple of days I had a video call with a member of the medical team who walked me through what the combined procedure would involve, realistic expectations for results, recovery timeline and what the package included. There was no pressure. When I said I needed a few weeks to think about it, they said that was completely fine and to come back when I was ready.
That approach — unhurried, informative, no hard sell — was what made me trust them.
Arriving in Istanbul
I flew from Manchester. The flight is just over four hours, which honestly feels shorter than driving to London in rush hour.
A driver was waiting for me at arrivals with a sign. I was taken directly to a 4-star hotel near the clinic. My coordinator — who I’ll call Omar, because that’s his name — messaged me as soon as I landed to make sure everything had gone smoothly and to confirm the schedule for the following morning.
I won’t pretend I wasn’t nervous. I was. But the nervousness was manageable, partly because every step had been explained in advance and partly because someone was always available if I had questions.
The Day of the Procedure
I arrived at the clinic at 8am for pre-operative checks — blood pressure, blood tests, a final consultation with the surgeon who went through the plan one more time and marked the treatment areas.
The procedure itself was performed under sedation anaesthesia, which is one of Estelux’s differentiators — I was completely unaware throughout. No awareness, no discomfort. I woke up in the recovery room feeling groggy but not in pain.
The combined liposuction and J-Plasma took approximately four hours. I rested at the clinic for another two hours before being transferred back to the hotel.
That first evening was the most uncomfortable — movement was slow and I was swollen and bruised. This is completely normal and expected. Omar checked in via WhatsApp that evening to make sure I was managing.
Recovery: The Honest Version
I’ll be straight with you: the first three days are not comfortable. You’re swollen, you’re bruised, and getting in and out of bed requires more effort than you’d like. The compression garment — which you wear continuously for the first few weeks — is not glamorous.
But it was manageable. The clinic provided pain medication and clear instructions. By day three I was moving around the hotel comfortably. By day five, when I flew home, I felt well enough to travel without issue.
Week by week recovery:
- Week 1–2: Swelling and bruising significant. Compression garment worn 24 hours. Rest recommended.
- Week 3–4: Swelling reducing. Most patients return to desk work.
- Month 2–3: Bruising gone. Results becoming visible as swelling continues to resolve.
- Month 3–6: J-Plasma skin tightening effect continues to develop. This is the phase where the results really start to show.
- Month 6–12: Final results. The skin continues to improve for up to a year.
The Results: Six Months On
I’m writing this six months after my procedure. The results have exceeded what I expected.
The contour change from the liposuction is exactly what I wanted — proportionate, natural-looking, not dramatic in an obvious way. More importantly, the skin tightening from the J-Plasma has transformed areas that I genuinely believed were beyond fixing. The loose skin that I’d been hiding for two years is gone.
I went swimming last month for the first time in four years. That probably tells you everything you need to know.
What I Wish I’d Known Before Going
1. Research the clinic, not just the country. Turkey has excellent clinics and some poor ones, just like the UK. The difference in quality is enormous. Verify that any clinic you consider is licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health and check genuine patient reviews across multiple platforms.
2. The flight home is fine. I was worried about flying five days post-op. With the surgeon’s clearance and compression garment, it was completely manageable.
3. Budget for the full recovery period. You’ll need a couple of weeks of limited activity. Plan this in advance, especially if you have a physical job.
4. The results take time. J-Plasma in particular continues to work for months. Don’t judge your results at week four — you won’t be seeing the full picture yet.
5. Communication is everything. The reason my experience was positive was largely because every question I had — before, during and after — was answered quickly and honestly. If a clinic is slow to respond or vague with answers, that tells you something important.
Would I Do It Again?
Without hesitation.
The combination of liposuction and J-Plasma at Estelux Istanbul gave me results I couldn’t have accessed at home — either because the procedures weren’t available together or because the cost was simply prohibitive.
If you’re considering a similar procedure and you’re in the UK, I’d encourage you to do what I didn’t do for three years: actually look into it properly, rather than dismissing it based on assumptions.
